All new residents of North Carolina are required to purchase license plates upon establishing residency. Contact the Department of Motor Vehicles on Highway #49 South 597-5636 first to get drivers license changed to NC. Liability insurance is required on all vehicles and a certificate of insurance from the insurer must be presented with the application for license. The fee for passenger car plates is $28.00. You may register your car and purchase plates at the DMV office 336-597-480 at 811 North Madison Blvd, Monday Thru Friday 9:00 am- 5:00 pm office closed for lunch 12:30-1:30 pm, or online at NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles

Dogs must be vaccinated for rabies after the age of four months. Vaccinations may be obtained at the Roxboro Animal Hospital, 520 Burlington Road (599-8303) or Woodsdale Animal Hospital, 430 South Morgan Street (599-0611). An Animal Control Officer may be contacted by calling (336) 597-1741.

All driving residents are required to have a North Carolina Driver's License which may be obtained at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants must take the oral or written examination and are subject, to a driving test. At the time for renewal drivers are required to take the eye exam and road sign test. Contact the DW for information on Class A and B driver's licenses. All licenses expire on your birthday. You are required to have your address changed within 60 days. . Mini bike Operation A license is required to operate on public streets and highways. Operators must be at least age 16.

A marriage license is valid for 60 days after the issue date. There is no waiting period. The couple must present a certified copy of their birth certificates and show their driver's licenses or Social Security Cards. If either person has been divorced they must present a copy of the judgment. If either party in the couple wishing to be married is under 18 their parents are required to sign the marriage license. The cost of the license is $50.00 and may be obtained at the Register of Deed's Office, Person County Court House, Monday through Friday 8:3 0 a.m. - 4: 00 p.m. (336) 597-7221.

All residents are required to list both real estate and personal property for taxes. The listing time is January 1-31 each year. Taxes are listed through the mail system. County and City taxes are paid at the tax office located at 13 Abbitt Street (336) 597-1721.

The office number is 597-0570 and office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Inspections Office is located at 325 South Morgan Street.
