Roxboro Country Club
Earl & Donna Gurtner, Owners
Roxboro Country Club has been drawing golfers from all over the Middle Atlantic States and the Southeast since it was opened in 1939. Today it is owned by Earl and Donna Gurtner and operates as RCC of Person County, LLC. The Gurtners have big plans for its future. One of their goals has been to open up the club to make it more accessible for those who already love the game of golf and for newcomers who want to learn the game. Earl is the perfect person to teach newcomers to the sport; he is also the Roxboro Community School golf coach.
Open seven days a week; 8 a.m. until dark, including holidays
A Better Bail Company
Lawrie Evans, Owner
One of the questions Lawrie often encounters is "How does bail bonding work?" Here's an example: Bob gets arrested for a crime and is brought before the Magistrate (Judge) by the arresting officer. The Magistrate sets a bond amount related to the offense and security of the public at large. In this case, it will be a $1,500 bond. That bond can be posted by the full cash amount, securing the bond by a piece of real property, or by hiring a professional bondsman (such as Lawrie), or any combination of these options. By state statue, she can charge up to 15 percent, which in this case would be $225. The defendant is released to her custody and it becomes her responsibility to make sure they attend all court dates until the case is finished. If they run away and cannot be recovered, she must pay the court the total of $1,500 back for the bond she posted. If they make all of their court dates, her liability on the bond is finished and she owes the court nothing. The $225 fee is retained by the company to cover all expenses related to posting the bond and monitoring the case until it is over. In many instances, cases can take up to two years or more to finish. With nine bail companies in Roxboro, Laurie is well aware that you have a choice. "II know you hope you never need a bail bondsman; but when you or a loved one does, I hope you give A Better Bail Company a chance," she says.

Brinn Clayton, Publisher
Each edition of The Courier-Times is filled with hundreds of inches of news. Its advertising information is the most extensive and useful guide to local commerce and business. The Courier-Times also has a longstanding and continuing history of claiming North Carolina Press Association Awards — both for editorial work and advertising work.
The Courier-Times recently got a makeover, and now features brighter, truer color and better photo reproduction. Each page is now also printed in full-color format, which enhances photographs and advertisements. It features a smaller page size as well, which makes the newspaper easier for our readers to hold and handle. As a twice-weekly publication, The Courier-Times has “shelf life.” It stays in the home for extended periods of time, because people continue to refer to it throughout the week. Industry studies indicate as many as 2.8 people read each copy and will refer to it as many as three times. Hands down, The Courier-Times has the greatest market penetration of any advertising medium in the region. There is no better way to reach as many Person County homes.
